Katie Skills presents Summer Bubblers

7 07 2009

I’m packed, ready to travel across the globe and listen to Katie Skills’ mix of “beats, broken, bass and love”. Summer Bubblers all the way to a chilly Melbourne. Wintertime down under. Perfect conference conditions. My oh my, soundcloud sure looks cool.

PS: best joke about the MJ funeral so far: this has to be the first time MJ showed up on time Read the rest of this entry »

Chicago’s best kept secret

21 06 2009

Moses with a flow (head nod to Spec Boogie). That’s who Yaw is or could be. The man knows how to keep his digital shadow in check. All I know is that he hails from Chicago, he’s religious and he’s the lead singer for a band called Black Slang. On his MySpace profile, he calls himself “a b-boy trapped deep inside a soul singer”.

Yaw’s brand of b-boy infused soul is timeless. I’m sure you’ve all heard this track before, but it still stops me in my tracks every time. Those strings, those horns, that sad, contemplative tone. Epic.

Brownswood Bubblers Vol. 4

28 05 2009

This has been on my mind for some time now: when will the good people at Brownswood Recordings turn out another Brownswood Bubblers compilation? Apparently, it’s in the works and Lisa Papineau’s Rene Thomas (listen on her MySpace) will be one of the tracks on the album. I needed this news.
