A tribe called commiseration

Writing Across Boundaries is a website for social scientists writing up their doctoral theses. How convenient: more self-indulgence. Just what I needed. Sarcasm aside, I tip my hat to the project because it is spot on. Trust me, musings on the “the quest to produce texts which are engaging, accurate and analytically insightful” offer a welcome diversion from my own textual struggles, just like political satire.

In addition, the site features a discussion group, resources and reflections on writing from established scholars. In the first installment of Writing on Writing, Cambridge’s Marilyn Strathern compares bridging the data-theory gap to “a moment of dissolution” which “renders formless the caterpillar inside its chrysalis, and recovering some sense of form is the new work.” On that note, I’m off again to recover form.

Thanks for posting that- the world will never have enough resources for lost and stressed Ph.D. students!
