Instead of making conversation

Now hear this: taking over the Soul sunday blogosphere is my favorite guardian angel, Ellen. In no particular order: open water swimmer, blogger, ethnographer, friend, mother and music lover. In short: a soul sista. The floor is yours.

It was a lone, sad day when I heard Dee Edward’s Why can’t there be love for the first time. I was hooked. Souled on by its rip-roaring, exciting femme funk groovin’ feeling. No down in the dumps, sad song about unanswered love. But a lively, wild mixture of melodrama, anger and impatience. The deeper, stronger, shade of soul. A fantastic Northern Soul Funk rarity. Which got me up and running in no time.

Dee Edwards – Why can’t there be love (Ubiquity, 2007)
