America’s favorite pastime has taken a major blow. Yesterday, former governor George Mitchell published the names of some 80 baseball players linked to systematic doping and steroid use. As a sportsfan and sportsman, I say this: allow governing bodies of major professional sports (e.g. football, basketball, cycling, curling) to legalize performance-enhancing drugs, but
- levy taxes on leagues that allow steroid use
- impose a strict communication policy
- limit the salaries of athletes who use steroids and
- ban those athletes from Olympic competition.
