In no particular order:
- Jazzanova…Mixing (Sonar Kollektiv) includes an irresistible remix of Jill Scott’s “A Long Walk”, Deyampert’s heavenly “Held Him First” (those horns, oh, those horns) and Bahamadia’s “Uknowhowwedo”. Quality entertainment.
- The Kings of Jazz (BBE) compiled by Gilles Peterson & Jazzanova. ’nuff said.
- Brownswood Bubblers, Vol. 1 (Brownswood Recordings) in the words of Erykah Badu, this is “grown folks’ music”. Quality soul & R&B, handpicked by Gilles Peterson.
- Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite (Sony Entertainment). I must have bought about 15 copies of this cd over the years. The ultimate pre and post nookie chill out music.
- Gold Digging as sampled by Kanye West (Demon). Features ‘Home is where the hatred is’, by Gil Scott-Heron and Aretha Franklin at her most fragile in ‘Call Me’.
